How To Avoid Burnout As An Entrepreneur

How To Avoid Burnout

The end of the year is creeping up on us quickly. For many entrepreneurs, that means an increased workload, putting in long hours to meet deadlines or close end-of-the-year deals. With all this added stress surrounding work and the holiday season, it's easy to feel burned out. During this time of the year, you should be feeling accomplished for the work you've done and looking forward to the upcoming year.

Let's dive into ways you can avoid feeling burned out.

01. Address it before it gets overwhelming.

Being able to recognize and address the early signs of burnout will save you from falling deeper into it and get you back on track before it's too late. If you see yourself falling out of your normal/healthy routine and getting a lot more irritated about work or life, you may need to take some time to reset. Your work can't be at its best if you aren't. Find out where this feeling stems from and address it head-on. As an entrepreneur, it's important that you prioritize yourself and your mental well-being just as much as your work.

02. Set boundaries and uphold them.

We understand that it can be hard to say no to your clients and even yourself, but sometimes the situation calls for it. Only you know your capacity for work, so set those boundaries. The quickest way to feel burned out is when you commit while having too much on your plate already or when your heart really isn't in the project anyways.

03. Set a schedule and follow through with it.

If you don't already have set a schedule for your clients and yourself during the work day, you need to do that. This becomes especially critical during the end of the year. Just like you, everyone is trying to wrap up any loose ends. However, that doesn't mean you should always work outside of the hours you have set for yourself. You need that daily break to reset and decompress. It may be hard, but sticking to that will help your energy and focus levels stay higher for a longer amount of time.

04. Get organized.

There is nothing worse to add to an already burnt-out feeling than not having all your ducks in a row. Create a detailed list of all deadlines and any end-of-the-year housekeeping you need to do and get to work. Doing this will keep you out of the dark and even allow you to better schedule the time you need for yourself -whether that be during each day or the holidays.

05. Unplug and get your blood pumping.

During this time of the year, it's easy to spend a lot of time at your desk. While we understand you'll likely be putting in more hours during this time, we want to encourage you to prioritize taking a quick break to get your body moving. Take a quick walk around the neighborhood, do some stretches, whatever feels good to you and gets you in your body. Burnout is caused by not prioritizing your mental health and part of that means prioritizing your overall health as well.

We hope this gave you some ideas on how to avoid burnout so you can feel pumped going out of this year and into the next. This time of year should be about looking back on all you have accomplished and setting new goals for yourself to work toward in the future. As always, we are here to help and coach you through all the ins and out of being an entrepreneur.
