Common Branding Myths

Common Branding Myths

When someone asks you to describe your brand, what do you say?

For entrepreneurs, it can sometimes be difficult to describe. There is tons of information out there telling you what branding is and is not. As experts, we want to address some of the common myths.

Myth 01: Your logo is your brand.

While your logo is a big part of your brand, there is so much more that goes into it. Your brand should not only consist of your visual branding (logo suite, brand colors, brand pattern, and fonts), but it should also consist of your brand messaging, target audience, and market position. Your clients need to be able to recognize you by how your brand looks but also connect with how your brand feels.

Myth 02: You should invest in branding once you are making more sales.

We would say the complete opposite. While branding is an investment, it's one worth making. A good reason to invest in branding at the early stages of your business is that it will help you learn more about your target audience and how to use the right messaging and visuals to connect with them. Don't waste time and energy trying to reach your ideal clients when having a strategy behind your branding can make that process run smoother and more efficiently.

Myth 03: Your branding should be all about what you want and like.

While you should put parts of your personality into your branding, you also want to have your ideal clients in mind. What do THEY connect with most? What are THEY looking for in a brand? Do your research and find a way to incorporate what both you and your clients are attracted to.

Myth 04: You only need branding if you are selling a product or service.

You don't always have to be selling something to want to give value to an audience. You can be your brand. With influencers making a huge impact on social media and more of them coming up each day, it's safe to say that personal branding is becoming more important than ever. In the same way, if a business wants to stand out from its competitors, you will want to as well.

Myth 05: You only need beautiful visuals to have strong branding.

Well, not exactly. Yes, we all love the visual aspects of branding. It's fun so who wouldn't? However, do know that you should focus just as much on your market position, messaging, tone, and target audience as well. Having a pretty logo won't mean anything if you don't know who to show it off to and how to talk to them once they come to you.

With all that being said, there is value in having a strategy behind your brand. It leaves all the guesswork out of reaching your ideal clients and making sales. Your brand can be as powerful as you want it to be, especially when you have the experts by your side to work with.
